Delicate clusters of snowdrops gently nod, signaling the end of winter with quiet grace. These native gems thrive in the soft shade beneath trees and shrubs, yet they’re equally charming in alpine gardens or naturalized in grassy areas. Consider adding them to window boxes or containers as part of a diverse planting display. Hardy and prolific, they rapidly spread, forming a beautiful carpet of single blooms. Reaching a height of 15 cm (6″) and spreading 10 cm (4″), snowdrop bulbs are perfect for autumn planting. For spring planting, select snowdrops already in leaf. Only cultivated stock is used. Plant snowdrops in the dappled shade of deciduous trees. Snowdrop bulbs thrive in reliably moist, well drained soil that is rich in organic matter. Add plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost to the soil prior to planting to improve less than ideal soils. Plant bulbs at a depth of 10cm (4″) and a distance of 10cm (4″) apart. For natural looking drifts of snowdrop flowers, gently cast them across the planting area and plant them where they land!
