Japanese Maples are prized for their striking foliage and graceful forms, making them an excellent focal point in sheltered garden areas. This Acer duo features two particularly eye-catching varieties, both known for their bold colour and elegance. With their slow-growing nature, they’re ideal for large patio containers, where they can bring both colour and structure, or as standalone specimens in garden borders. Height and spread: 4m (13ft). The Acer Bold Duo includes: Acer palmatum ‘Atropurpureum’ – A classic variety with rich purple-red leaves that transform into a stunning fiery red in the autumn, adding a dramatic seasonal display. Acer ‘Orange Dream’ – This variety starts with vibrant yellow and burnt-orange foliage in spring, complemented by small red blooms. The leaves shift to a bright lime green in summer before changing to vibrant orange and gold for a breathtaking autumn show. Pot up acer plants and grow them on in cool frost free conditions until large enough to plant outside in their final positions. When plants are well grown, gradually acclimatise them to outdoor conditions before transplanting them in borders outdoors. Grow acer trees in any moist, fertile, well drained soil in sun or dappled shade, with shelter from strong winds which can scorch the finely cut leaves. Alternatively grow acers in large containers using a soil based compost such as John Innes No.3.
