Helleborus orientalis Double Ellen Red is an in-demand hardy, evergreen perennial, late winter and early spring flowering time. Large double dark purple flowers attract early pollinators to the garden and the wonderful colour is an ideal backdrop for spring-flowering bulbs.
Long flowering it is perfect for the cottage garden or winter containers and patio pots, prefers dappled shade.
Height and spread: 35cm (14″).
Grow hellebores in neutral or alkaline soil, in dappled shade. Hellebores prefer a moist, humus rich, fertile soil that does not dry out in summer or sit waterlogged in winter. When growing hellebores on heavy clay or free draining gravel soils, add plenty of well rotted leaf mould or other organic matter to the soil prior to planting.
