Rhubarb is an ideal fruit for making delicious puddings, offering a valuable harvest during the colder months. We’ve selected two new varieties that will give you a continuous supply of rhubarb throughout the season. These young plants will mature quickly, with crowns large enough to start harvesting just two years after planting. Our collection includes: Rhubarb ‘Sanvitos® Early’: This early variety produces an abundance of tall, vibrant strawberry-red stalks. Rhubarb ‘Sanvitos® Summer’: Strong, vigorous plants yield bright red stems with a perfectly balanced tartness. Time to first harvest after planting: 16-20 months. Time to peak yields: 28-32 months. Rhubarbs are the ideal pudding fruit, providing an invaluable crop at the most difficult time of year. Plant rhubarb from autumn to spring in a sunny position in well drained soil. Prepare the soil in advance by digging in plenty of well rotted manure and clearing all weeds. When planting rhubarb crowns, set them so that the top of the crown sits 3cm (1″) below soil level and allow a spacing of 75cm (30″) between plants. Alternatively plant them in large containers of soil based compost such as John Innes No 3. mixed with plenty of rotted manure.
