Tree Peony Lu He Hong is a truly impressive bloomer, producing an abundance of upright flowers that invite you to admire their beauty and inhale the soft, layered petals! With large, double blooms reaching up to 18cm in diameter, each flower features delicate sugar-pink petals with purplish-red bases surrounding a stunning center of golden stamens. Few shrubs can match the elegance and glamour of tree peonies. Though they come with a higher price tag, they are magnificent garden showpieces that are sure to capture attention and inspire admiration. Despite their dramatic appearance, tree peonies are easy to grow as long as they are provided with the essentials: a sheltered spot in full sun (or light shade) and fertile, well-drained soil. They also do well in large containers. Fully hardy and generally pest- and disease-resistant, these plants require little maintenance and don’t need routine pruning. Tree peonies are long-lasting, blooming year after year with abundant, lightly fragrant, dinner-plate-sized flowers in late spring or early summer. Their blossoms are carried on strong, upright woody stems, covered in deep green, divided leaves. Height: 1.2m (4ft). Spread: 90cm (3ft). Due to seasonal changes, we list by pot size rather than a fixed plant size. The height and spread of the plant may vary with the season, so the images provided are for reference only. Tree Peony ‘Lu He Hong’ has large, double blooms, up to 18cm in diameter, with sugar-pink petals bearing purplish-red bases that surround a boss of gold stamens.   Grow tree peonies in full sun or a lightly shaded position that is sheltered from cold winds. They prefer a well drained, humus-rich, fertile, neutral to alkaline soil. They will grow in most soils, except waterlogged and acidic soils, provided they are improved on planting. This is best achieved by adding plenty of well rotted manure or compost to the soil prior to planting, ensuring that it is mixed in thoroughly and deeply. Plant tree peonies so that the grafted union sits about 15cm (6″) below the soil surface. Shallow planting may hinder establishment and delay flowering.
