‘Lucille’ is a showy Cape Primrose, that blooms from March until December. It generates an abundance of delicate lilac and purple flowers, that each feature intricate white sepals. Its fresh green foliage makes a wonderful variance and adds an exotic feel to the home. Ideal for growing in a conservatory or greenhouse, be sure to position this tender perennial in semi shade, where it can flourish to a height of 20cm, along with a spread of 25cm. Streptocarpus ‘Lucille’ bears purple blooms with deeper purple throats and veining.
March to September
Place your Streptocarpus in a bright spot in indirect light out of the midday sun. Do not expose to hot, direct sunlight. An east or west-facing windowsill is perfect. About once a week water sparingly when the compost begins to dry out, keeping plants on the dry side. Never leave them to sit in water. Overwatering can be fatal. Feed weekly with a high potash tomato feed which will boost flower production. Deadhead faded flowers to encourage more blooms to be produced. As the plant grows, repot as necessary in spring into a slightly larger pot.
October to February
Move to a south facing windowsill if possible. Keep drier over the winter, only watering occasionally and sparingly when the compost dries out. Don’t feed. Remove any dead leaves and debris to minimise the chance of pests and diseases.
