Rhododendron ‘Silver Sixpence’ is a beautiful Yakushimanum hybrid, celebrated for its compact growth and abundant blooms. In late spring, delicate white trumpet-shaped flowers, adorned with pale lemon spots, unfurl from soft sugar-pink buds. This evergreen shrub develops an upright, rounded form and thrives in shady, challenging areas. It’s an excellent choice for acid borders, woodland gardens, and patio containers, offering year-round charm. Height and Spread: 90cm (36″) White trumpet-shaped flowers, spotted with pale lemon, open from sugar-pink buds in late spring. Rhododendron ‘Silver Sixpence’ is one of the acclaimed Yakushimanum hybrids, well regarded for their compact habit and free flowering display. Grow Rhododendrons in moist, well drained, acid soil that has been enriched with plenty of well rotted organic matter. Choose a position in semi or dappled shade with shelter from cold drying winds. Many dwarf Rhododendrons can cope with a sunny position provided that the soil remains reliably moist. Where soil conditions are alkaline, Rhododendron plants are best grown in patio containers, using a mix of ericaceous compost and a soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3. Rhododendrons are surface rooting so it is important to avoid planting them too deeply.
