Goji Berry ‘Sweet Lifeberry,’ a traditional fruit in China, is becoming a famous fruit in the United States. The delicious, rich berries are also rich in vitamin C, antioxidants, and protein, making them a superfruit. Also known as Lycium barbartum, it is a deciduous shrub that requires low upkeep. It can be used as part of a shrub collection or as a hedge or screen due to its spreading habit. The pale lavender or pink blooms bloom in the summer and quickly give way to a great number of brilliant red fruits when fully ripe. Height: 350cm (138″). Spread: 500cm (197″). The goji berry has been a staple of the Chinese diet for centuries. The sweet, vitamin C-packed berries are high in antioxidants and protein, making them commonly referred to as one of the “superfruits.” Pot up plants and grow them on in frost free conditions until large enough to plant outside in their final positions. Prior to transplanting them, acclimatise goji berry plants to outdoor conditions over a period of 7 to 10 days. Plant goji berries in any well drained soil in full sun. When growing goji berries in patio containers use a soil based compost such as John Innes No.3.
