Rhododendron ‘Maruschka’ is an evergreen Azalea that bursts into vibrant red blooms in late spring, covering the plant in a stunning display. Its dark green foliage in summer transforms into a deep bronze hue during the winter months. When planted in an acid border, it creates a striking contrast with other evergreen plants. With its tidy, rounded shape, ‘Maruschka’ makes a perfect feature plant for patio containers. Height and spread: 100cm (39”). Grow Rhododendrons in moist, well drained, acid soil that has been enriched with plenty of well rotted organic matter. Choose a position in semi or dappled shade with shelter from cold drying winds. Many dwarf Rhododendrons can cope with a sunny position provided that the soil remains reliably moist. Where soil conditions are alkaline, Rhododendron plants are best grown in patio containers, using a mix of ericaceous compost and a soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3. Rhododendrons are surface rooting so it is important to avoid planting them too deeply.
